Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a stimulating application of cryogenic temperatures below -100 °C on the body surface, for a short time (2-4 minutes) in order to provoke and make use of physiological and bodily reaction for cold. The aim is to support standard treatment of illnesses and dysfunctions of locomotor organ and spine.

Benefits of cryotherapy

Whole-body cryotherapy

Whole-body cryotherapy is a stimulating application of cryogenic temperatures on the whole body surface in order to provoke and make use of physiological reactions for cold. Positive bodily response for cryotherapy supports the treatment and facilitates movement therapy (kinesiotherapy),

Therapeutic effects of the whole-body cryotherapy:

  • Neuromuscular response: pain reduction or elimination, due to the increased
beta-endorphins release, slowed down sensory and motor nerve conduction, relaxation of the tense muscles surrounding the affected joints, which significantly increases their strength.
  • Circulatory response: contractions of skin blood vessels, then their relaxation and a marked hyperaemia, which helps to reduce the swelling and improves metabolism and elimination of accumulated metabolism products.
  • The feeling of subjective painlessness: relating not only to joints and body surface pain, but also to the feeling of pain inside the body – the feeling of fatigue disappears.
  • Hormonal response: increased concentration of adrenaline, noradrenaline, ACTH, cortisol, testosterone (in men) in blood.
Local cryotheratpy

Local cryotherapy supports patient recovery thanks to the use of stimulating cryogenic temperature below -100°C in order to provoke and make use of bodily reaction to cold. The aim is to support the treatment of locomotor organs conditions and dysfunctions.

Therapeutic effects of the local cryotherapy:

  • Raised pain threshold level.
  • Local hyperaemia.
  • Reduced muscle tension.
  • Reduced activity of inflammatory processes.
  • When combined with kinesiotherapy, increased joints mobility and muscle strength.
  • Shortened recovery time after sport injuries.
  • When applied immediately after burn injuries, the skin heals without infection or scars.
Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is causing a local tissue necrosis of the intended and specified range. Detachment of affected tissue is bloodless.
